Deepworld Launches A Kickstarter Project To Fund A Mac Beta

When I first met the guys making Deepworld, a 2D Sandbox-style building game that is similar to Minecraft, at GDC in March, I informed them that the project would be much bigger than they thought.  GAMING NEWS Although they have years of experience in developing software and servers operating a huge game like Deepworld requires a significant investment. It looks like they now agree. Kickstarter was designed to raise funds early for development and servers.

The group is offering a wide range of prizes to their supporters which include your own servers and worlds as well art books and other items. You can also consider buying your own items as well as names and pictures for the game. The goal is US$20,000 overall and the guys have collected around $4,000. They have stated that they would like to continue the project full-time, and this money will allow them to accomplish that goal.

I certainly wish them the best. Deepworld looks great and, as I mentioned when I first saw it, the Mac (and iOS) would benefit from a game like this.
